I’m Katrina, and I thrive on creative challenges. With a background as an accomplished media producer in New York and Vancouver, my career took an unexpected turn when I found myself caring for my mother who was living with dementia.
This personal experience inspired me to pivot into caregiving advocacy and education. I channeled my media skills into co-creating 2 we “Therapeutic Fibbing,” and ‘Things Not To Say To A Caregiver” - both viewed web series that has reached over a million people. This innovative series serves as a vital tool for dementia advocacy and caregiver support, engaging audiences in meaningful ways.
I’m a passionate community advocate. I’ve designed and launched programs supporting Indigenous-led organizations, tackling isolation, addressing hunger, and promoting zero waste. My work is driven by a belief that positive action equals supportive impact. Through my creativity and commitment, I strive to improve the lives of those around me and make a lasting difference in the community.
ABOUT US
I’m Amberlea, and my passion for caregiving began as I walked alongside my grandmother during her dementia journey. My professional background is in advertising and creative services, yet I discovered my true calling in supporting seniors, dedicating my life to improving their quality of life and well-being. My journey into this field grew through volunteer work, delivering meals and assisting at an adult dementia day program.
As a board member for an adult day program in Vancouver, I’ve become deeply invested in creating better support systems for seniors and their families. Whether through hands-on care or advocacy efforts, I’m committed to making a lasting difference. Inspired by the belief that every small action can improve someone’s quality of life at any stage of their journey, I dedicate my time and energy to projects that tackle issues like hunger, isolation, and elder care.
Together, I hope to build a stronger, more compassionate community for seniors and their families.
I'm Melanie and I have been involved in change-making for many years. In the 1960s I was a professional social worker; since then my personal and work lives have been in grassroots community development and advocacy as a participant, a teacher, a consultant and a mentor. My confidence in and respect for the immense power of people acting together to find solutions for problems we have in common has only grown over the years. Access to resources ebbs and flows, but the need for community connection and action steadily increases.
As a senior I'm well aware of the many challenges facing me and my cohorts that need to be addressed. I'm excited to focus my energy in Care Nation to explore how we can facilitate stronger community relationships.
